A veteran member of Estevan city council has decided not to seek a third term.

Greg Hoffort has confirmed he won’t be running in the upcoming civic election. Hoffort was first elected in 2012, finishing first in the race, and was re-elected in 2016, when he finished second.

He has been undecided for months on whether he would run, and he stated previously that he would wait to see the field of councillors who were on the ballot before making a final decision.

He joins Dennis Moore and Lyle Yanish as city councillors who won’t seek re-election this fall. Another councillor, Trevor Knibbs, has yet to officially say whether he’ll run or not.

Incumbent councillors Travis Frank and Shelly Veroba have filed, as have first-time candidates Blaine Chrest, Lindsay Clark, Rebecca Foord, Geoff Thiessen, Kirsten Walliser and Bernadette Wright.

Incumbent Roy Ludwig and first-time candidate Ray Walton are running for mayor.

The deadline to submit nomination papers, including the criminal records check, is Oct. 7 at 4 p.m.

The civic election is Nov. 9.
