Midale residents busy for holidays, club holds AGM
Midale (cpd) - Happy New Year everyone! I would like to apologize for not writing for two weeks. I didn't have much to put in here as a lot of people were taking a break from their activities to enjoy their Christmas holidays.
I would like to apologize for not writing for two weeks. I didn't have much to put in here as a lot of people were taking a break from their activities to enjoy their Christmas holidays. Midale saw a lot of visitors coming to see family and friends over the holidays and many others travelled to go see their families.
The Midale 39ers held their Annual General Meeting and a new board has been elected. Remaining as president is Ferdie Kuhn, the new vice president is Freck Waite, new as secretary is Betty Kramer, remaining as treasurer is Cliff Lowry and newly appointed member at large is Albert Pinnell.
The 39ers will hold a Whist and Crib Drive on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. The members of the Midale 39ers paid tribute to Ruth Hoium for her many years of service on the Midale 39ers board and countless hours of volunteer work.
Ruth has been on the board since the Midale 39ers was formed many years ago.
The Midale Public Library has new extended hours. The new hours are: Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Wednesdays, 2-6 p.m., Thursdays, 4-8 p.m., and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Book Club meets at the library at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month.
This month they are reading "The Soldier's Wife" by Margaret Leroy and will discuss it on Jan. 16. New club members are welcome, please stop by during library hours or call Tara-Lee McIndoe at the library. Visit the Midale Public Library on Facebook and "tweet" them on Twitter.
Midale's Nurse Practitioner is Collette Tattman RN(NP), who comes to Midale every Monday and Tuesday to see patients at Mainprize Manor.
She has been a part of the community for the past seven months.
Midale school has extended to her a corner of their newsletter so that she can write weekly articles of varying topics. Through this newsletter, she also hopes residents can get to know a little about her and her Nurse Practitioner role.
Each week, she will choose an e-mail to respond to within this newsletter. She cannot respond to direct health concerns, but she can answer general questions regarding the prevention or treatment of colds, common skin conditions, parenting concerns, nutrition, diabetes management (to name a few).
She moved to Estevan in February, 2011, but has lived in Saskatchewan since moving from B.C. in 2008. "Why Saskatchewan!?" many people ask. First, B.C. is blessed with many more physicians than in Saskatchewan, therefore the NP role isn't utilized as much. Her work history consists of over 12 years of education and experience in critical care/emergency room nursing.
She has formal training in both of these fields, as well as in cardiology (heart medicine). Her Nurse Practitioner training is in family medicine, as well she has dabbled for a few years in wound care, palliative care, and cosmetic surgery.
Her training has allowed her a comfort and familiarity with managing common (and sometimes not so common) health conditions, while her life experience of raising four children has taught her a few tricks along the way as well.
To contact Collette Tattman RN(NP), e-mail to: [email protected] Midale Central School's Student Services Counsellor, Lindsay Wagner, along with her husband Chris, welcomed another baby boy, Rhett James, to the family.
Rhett was born Dec. 29, 2011 at 2:06 p.m., weighing seven pounds nine ounces and just shy of 21 inches long.
Tom Broccolo will take over her position from January 2012 until January 2013. Referrals for counselling can be made through the classroom teacher or administration of the school or by speaking to Tom directly.
Possible reasons for referral may be self-appreciation, peer relations, family changes, understanding emotions, understanding behaviour, and overall wellness. Counselling time can occur individually or in small groups during the school day.
Counselling is available to all students and it is a positive, healthy means of managing our lives. If you have any questions/concerns or would like to meet with Tom, please call the school.
The school's Christmas Dinner was a huge success. The Grade 12 class appreciated the community's support. This is one of their fundraisers to pay for their graduation ceremony.
There has been an issue lately with students arriving late for class. Arriving late disrupts the class and results in missed instructional time.
Three "lates" will result with the student spending an hour with that teacher after school. Any further "lates" after that will result in an additional hour of bonding time with their teacher.
The town of Midale has changed over to Regens Disposal for curbside waste and recyclables collection. Just a reminder to residents that the grey cart is for waste, green is for cardboard and paper material and the blue cart is for tin cans and plastic containers that have a #1 to #7 on the bottom.
Please remember to rinse the containers, milk jugs, cans, etc. before placing them in the cart. Remember to have the carts placed at the side of the road(curb) by 7 a.m. on Thursday. Notify Regens if you have any problems or concerns at their office.

The Isobel Scharnatta family was treated to a homemade Turducken for Christmas this year. It started off as a joke to the family, but then Isobel said she was going to buy one.
In the end, granddaughter Miranda Snider made one for her. It was enjoyed by all. For those of you who don't know what it is, it is layers alternating of turkey and duck.
Basically you debone a duck and chicken, then alternate a layer of bird and a layer of dressing and wrap it all up inside a turkey. (You need to take the main carcass bone and the thigh bones out of the turkey first.)
