The Estevan Police Service (EPS) handled calls related to impaired drivers, accidents and more during a busy week.
Police arrested and charged a 29-year-old Regina man with impaired driving and driving while over .08 during the July 18 day shift, after police received a driving complaint. He is also facing charges of possession of a controlled substance, and will appear in court in September to answer to the charges.
Members responded to a collision between a train and a semi-trailer on the outskirts of the city. The Estevan RCMP and the Estevan Fire Rescue Service also responded. No one was injured in the collision.
Police were also called to a two-vehicle accident near Souris Avenue South and First Street. EMS attended and assessed one driver. Charges under the Traffic Safety Act for driving without due care and attention were laid against one of the motorists.
Members also responded to several hit-and-run accidents at local businesses.
Police received a call during the July 18 night shift about a small child being carried on the lap of a passenger in a vehicle. Police could not locate the vehicle.
Members observed a pair of motorcycles driving erratically and at a high rate of speed on Souris Avenue and Fourth Street. Police attempted to stop the bikes, but due to safety concerns, the pursuit was halted. Officers arrested and charged a 23-year-old man from Brampton, Ontario, with breaching his release conditions during the July 19 day shift, after police received a complaint. The male was released for court in September.
Officers attended to an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 100-block of Fourth Street. The pedestrian was transported by EMS for further treatment of minor injuries. The motorist was charged for driving without due care and attention under the Traffic Safety Act.
Officers received a report of criminal harassment between two former friends. The investigation is ongoing.
Members also assisted the fire department with searching an apartment building on Perkins Street after a fire alarm sounded. Once the search for residents was complete, members turned the scene over to the fire department.
Police received a report of two children on bicycles who were hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Sixth Street and 13th Avenue during the July 19 night shift. The driver stopped to check on the youths, and soon afterwards left the scene. Both children suffered minor scrapes and bruises. Because the accident caused injuries, police have asked the driver to visit the police station and fill out some SGI paperwork.
A good Samaritan turned in a wallet to the police station during the July 20 day shift. The wallet's owner was identified and it was returned to him.
Police responded to a disturbance in the Hillside area. The disagreement was mediated and the parties were separated to cool down.
Police received a driving complaint through the Report Impaired Drivers (RID) program. The matter is still under investigation.
An Estevan male was arrested on outstanding warrants for theft of a motor vehicle, mischief to property and failing to attend court. He was released on a promise to appear in court later in August.
Police received another complaint through the RID line for a vehicle en route from the campsite at Boundary Dam to Estevan. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.
A 49-year-old Estevan woman was arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08, after a traffic stop on Petterson Drive during the July 20 night shift. She will appear in court in September to answer to the charges.
A 24-year-old Estevan man was arrested in the downtown area, after members attended a residence on an unrelated matter. He was held for court.
Officers responded to a noise complaint in the Willow Park Greens trailer park. The homeowner was warned about the noise bylaw.
Members responded to a 911 hangup call in Willow Park Greens. A couple were having a disagreement and one of them dialled 911. One of the parties eventually left for the evening.
Police arrested an Estevan male on outstanding arrest warrants during the July 21 day shift. He was released to appear in Estevan court in August.
Members received a report of stolen vehicle. The matter is still under investigation.
Members were notified of an assault. This matter is also under investigation.
Officers received a report of a dog that was left in a vehicle in a parking lot. The matter was investigated and resolved.
Police received a tip of possible drug activity in central Estevan during the July 21 night shift. Members spoke with two subjects and determined nothing illegal was taking place.
Members were dispatched to a complaint of a suspicious person, thought to be attempting to gain access to a residence. A subject was later located and the situation was determined to be mistaken identity.
Police arrested a female during the July 22 day shift, in connection with a theft from a local business the previous day. Police have also laid additional charges of theft and fraud, as she was spotted committing another offence in the same store. She will answer to the charges on Sept. 19.
Officers responded to two separate theft calls from a local business during the July 22 night shift.
Police responded to a call during the July 23 day shift from north Estevan. A female was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital by EMS for treatment. She was released later in the day.
Officers arrested a 27-year-old Estevan man for breaching his release conditions. The man was released on electronic monitoring recently and was on strict conditions. The alleged offence happened on July 14, and since then, police have been working hard to gather evidence. Police were able to arrest the man in Estevan. They then obtained a search warrant for his home, where additional evidence was seized. He appeared in court on July 25.
Police received a report during the July 23 night shift of four males walking in the valley on King Street. They were carrying pick axes and damaging property. Police located the males and arrested them. A 25-year-old man was charged with two counts of mischief, and a 27-year-old man was charged with one count of mischief, related to property they damaged.
Officers then received an RID call regarding a couple leaving a bar. Police located the vehicle and the driver was issued a 72-hour driving suspension for having a blood alcohol content over .04. The female passenger was transported to the hospital for treatment, due to her level of intoxication.
Members were notified of two individuals on Milne Crescent who were attempting to break into vehicles. Police patrolled area but were unable to locate the suspects.
Members received a complaint of vandalism to the Saskatchewan Summer Games tents on Souris Avenue. One tent had black graffiti. The matter is under investigation.
Police continued to receive complaints of people getting calls from the Canada Revenue Agency. They remind the public to not provide banking information or send money to these callers.
Members also continued to receive complaints of suspicious individual and vehicles who were playing the Pokémon Go game.
