Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of May 13 to 20:

During the reporting period, police received 96 calls for service.

*On May 17, police received a complaint from a 47-year-old male that he had been defrauded of a substantial amount of cash in an alleged on-line dating site. Online scams are very common. The Police wish to stress that any financial disclosures or interactions on-line or through e-mail should be very carefully considered before disclosing personal or banking information.

*On May 16, police responded to a two-vehicle collision at Eighth Street and Coteau Avenue. The investigation revealed that a vehicle was travelling North on Eighth Street and failed to yield, resulting in a collision with the vehicle on Coteau Avenue. One vehicle had to be towed from the scene. There were no reported injuries. A 28-year-old local male was issued a traffic ticket for failing to yield.

*Police are investigating a report of a business having received goods they did not order but are being billed for them.

*On May 15, a vehicle parked at the Weyburn Junior High School had items stolen from it. Police advise car owners to secure their valuables out of sight and to lock their vehicles. As these are crimes of opportunity, a locked vehicle will help to deter any suspicious activity by someone targeting easy, unlocked vehicles.

*Police responded to a call of a domestic nature. It was determined that part of the allegation was not true. The matter was partially resolved without need for further police interaction. The unresolved portion is beyond police control.

*Police received a complaint regarding bicycles being ridden in violation of the "Rules of the Road." We wish to remind every bicycle rider that the Rules of the Road apply equally to them, such as stop signs, signaling and traffic lights. For example, a bicycle cannot be ridden at night without a proper headlight and tail light.

*On May 14, police responded to a complaint of domestic assault. As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old local male was located, arrested and has been charged with assault. The victim sustained minor injuries and was assisted by Victim Services. The accused will be making his first court appearance June 18 and has been released from custody with a condition not to contact the victim.

*As a result of a traffic stop, a 37-year-old local male was determined to have been consuming alcohol. After conducting a roadside breath test a 24-hour driving suspension was issued.

*On May 13, police began investigating two complaints involving residences that had rocks thrown through a house window. Due to the location and time, these matters are believed to be related and are likely a matter of mischief as opposed to residences being specifically targeted. These files are actively under investigation.

*Police were called to a two-vehicle collision at Government Road and First Avenue. The investigation determined that the traffic lane control sign was disregarded, resulting in both vehicles travelling straight thru the intersection.

*Police responded to two calls regarding fireworks being set off within the city. The responsible person could not be located. The Weyburn Police Service emphasizes that the setting off of fireworks within city limits is prohibited by a bylaw. These calls are very frustrating for both the caller and the police, as often the fireworks are set sporadically, and occasionally randomly if the people are walking around. This makes apprehension by the police very difficult and time consuming.
