REGINA — Regina police have arrested an Ontario suspect wanted on a nation-wide warrant, after executing a search warrant connected to a drug trafficking investigation.
Police attended an apartment building in the northwest area of the city on April 1, with intent to execute a search warrant under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
Officers from the drug unit, street gang unit, SWAT unit and canine unit joined regular patrol members for the search action.
The search recovered what officers identified to be cocaine, drug trafficking paraphernalia, an estimated $55,000 in Canadian money and two handguns.
One of the handguns was loaded and had been modified to be fully automatic with an over-capacity magazine and the other had a full magazine nearby, said police.
Six male suspects were also arrested at the scene, including one 29-year-old individual identified as wanted on an outstanding Canada-wide warrant for a homicide in Ottawa in May 2021.
Regina police said that upon arrival, three suspects allegedly attempted escape from the balcony of the fourth floor apartment.
One of these individuals fell and sustained serious injury, while another two resisted arrest and were bitten by a police canine. All three were transported to hospital for treatment of their injuries. The three other suspects were arrested without incident.
All six suspects are facing multiple charges, including several drug possession and trafficking charges, possession of proceeds of crime and numerous firearms charges.
The accused made their first appearances on these charges in Provincial Court on April 4.
