This year, the Weyburn & District United Way will be planning the 30th Annual Communithon. The nominating committee is currently searching for people who are interested in serving on the board, which is made up of 15 local volunteers. The United Way's annual general meeting will be held March 16, at which time the new board will be elected.
The board of directors meet throughout the year, accepts applications from member agencies and allocates the funds that are raised during Communithon. The event, held at the Weyburn Comprehensive High School, provides an opportunity for the member agencies to set up displays outlining their programs and services, and also an opportunity to spend at least an hour as an announcer at the event so they have time to talk about their activities in the community.
Over the last 29 years, the Weyburn & District United Way has raised over $3.5 million for Member Agencies providing valuable service to the community. The Member Agencies include: Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Canada Mental Health Association, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Canadian Paraplegic Association (Sask) Inc., Canadian Red Cross, Envision Counselling & Support Centre, The Arthritis Society, Southeast Advocates for Employment Inc. (WASES), Weyburn and Area Early Childhood Intervention Program, Weyburn Big Brothers Big Sisters, Weyburn Care-A-Van Society, and Weyburn Special Care Home Auxiliary.
Anyone interested in serving on the Weyburn & District United Way board is asked to contact anyone on the nominating committee: Tania Grams, Kathy Carson, Brent Allin, Corey Morrissette, or C.J. Mainil, or e-mail [email protected].
