Terry Keating is seeking a second term as the reeve of the RM of Estevan.

Keating filed his nomination papers for the reeve's job this week. He became the reeve in the 2016 election after defeating Kelly Lafrentz, who held the reeve post for several years.

Nobody else had filed for reeve as of Thursday afternoon.

Elections will be needed in divisions 1, 3 and 5 in the RM. In Division 1, incumbent Councillor Lorne Jahn is being challenged by Jeff Mack, and in Division 3, incumbent Councillor Dennis Blackburn will face Kevin Daoust. As for Division 5, Tania Hlohovsky Andrist and Mona Dukart are vying for the seat.

Elections for Divisions 2, 4 and 6 will happen in 2022.

As for Estevan city council, Allan Yergens filed his nomination papers on Thursday for councillor, bringing the total number of candidates to nine. He joins a field that includes incumbents Travis Frank and Shelly Veroba, and first-time candidates Blaine Chrest, Lindsay Clarke, Rebecca Foord, Geoff Thiessen, Kirsten Walliser and Bernadette Wright.

Incumbent Roy Ludwig and first-time candidate Ray Walton have filed nomination papers for mayor.

As for the school boards, Eric McCrimmon remains the only candidate for the two Estevan trustee spots on the South East Cornerstone Public School Division’s board.

Karen Melle filed nomination papers last week to be one of two Estevan trustees on the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division’s board.

The deadline to file nomination papers is Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. Those running for city councillor or mayor in Estevan will also need to have a criminal records check completed and filed before the deadline.
