Police received a report that while the vehicle owner was in his van on Mergens Street the van window was smashed out on Aug. 11. Police are looking to speak to two male youths who were seen in the area. No description was available.
Police received a call from a salvage dealer on Aug. 10 about a suspicious male trying to sell copper wire. When they attended the male fled the area without getting paid for the metal. An investigation into recent thefts of copper wire is ongoing.
Police received a complaint on Aug. 5 about kids drinking alcohol in one of the parks. A youth was charged with consuming alcohol in public which carries a fine of $250.
Police received a complaint on Aug. 6 that a 12-year-old female that was on a court undertaking was breaching those conditions. The investigation determined that the youth was not home during her curfew hours. The youth has been charged.
Police were called via 911 to a vehicle on fire on the 500 block of Fifth St. on Aug. 7. Police arrived and found that the engine compartment was on fire. The Fire Department attended and put the fire out. The caller was trying to boost his vehicle when it started on fire. This matter is not considered suspicious.
A woman and her two toddlers were on a bike path on the east side of the city the evening of Aug. 7. A male rode past on his cycle and exposed himself. Police located the suspect. A 27-year-old male from Weyburn has been charged with committing an indecent act and will be making a court appearance later this month.
Police received a complaint from the 700 Block of 18th St. that a dog had attacked another dog on Aug. 7. The investigation revealed that about six weeks prior the same dog had attacked another dog resulting in significant injuries to the dog which required medical attention. The dog and owner were located. A 61-year-old male resident of Weyburn has been charged with two offences under the City Dog Bylaw and will be making a court appearance in September.
Police were called to the 600 block of Duke St. by a homeowner on Aug. 8 who just saw three youths walk by and damage one of the under ground sprinkler heads. The homeowner was able to catch one of the youths, before police arrived. Police spoke to the youth's parents and will have the damage paid for.
The manager of a local bank reported a fraudulent cheque deposited by a 44-year-old local woman on Aug. 9. The suspect obtained an amount of cash. The matter is still under investigation.
A complaint was made to police that sometime between Aug. 1-8 damage was done to a vehicle in the NW end of the city. The complainant told police that someone used a wrench to damage his truck and then left the wrench in the back of his truck. There are no suspects at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
Police received a report on Aug. 10 that an 18-year-old local male who was on a court-ordered curfew wasn't home. The 18 year old has been charged with a breach of the court conditions.
Police responded to a 911 call on Aug. 11 requesting officers attend to a domestic disturbance. A 22-year-old female was removed from the residence and lodged in cells.
Officers patrolled the ball diamonds where a tournament was being held on Aug. 11. A beer garden was in place, however, charges of alcohol in a public place were issued to four individuals who were walking around the diamonds with open liquor.
A 16-year-old female from Weyburn currently on probation as well as being on release conditions from other pending criminal charges was apprehended on Aug. 12 for a violation of her probation. She was held in custody pending a court appearance.
During the week of July 29-Aug. 5, the Weyburn Police Service attended to 158 calls for service.
Police were dispatched on Aug. 5 to a report of a fire in the compound of a downtown business. Upon arrival police found that a vehicle owned by the business was on fire and fully involved. The Weyburn Fire Department responded to extinguish the blaze. Subsequent investigation revealed that in addition to the vehicle fire, a second vehicle owned by the business had been damaged. Had the fire spread to nearby material the resulting blaze could have had significant consequences for neighbouring businesses. The fire is being treated as suspicious and remains under investigation.
Over the past few weeks there has been an increase in reported damage to vehicles parked on city streets. Police are asking members of the public to report any suspicious activity or individuals in an attempt to reduce these incidents.
Police received a report on July 29 of mischief to a parked car. The car had been parked in the 800 block of Souris Avenue and had a mirror damaged. The incident remains under investigation.
The following morning, police received a report of mischief to two parked vans. The vans had been parked in the 1100 block of Park Street and had the mirrors broken on both. Damage is estimated to be over $1,000. Again there are no suspects, and the incident remains under investigation.
Police received a complaint of a damaged truck on July 31. The vehicle had been parked in the downtown area and it appeared someone had jumped on the hood. The incident remains under investigation.
Police attended to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Government Road and Bison Avenue the evening of July 31. There were no injuries. It appears the accident occurred when the westbound vehicle on Bison Avenue pulled out before safe and struck the northbound vehicle that was travelling on Government Road.
Police received a complaint of a stolen vehicle on Aug. 1 after the owner had contacted police and advised that his truck was not parked where he had left it the night before. The vehicle had sustained damage to the front end. The vehicle was seized by police and the incident remains under investigation.
City police attended to a downtown establishment after receiving a complaint on Aug. 1 of a patron who threatened to do damage to the business. Police arrested a 48-year-old man for being intoxicated in a public place. He was released when sober.
Police received a complaint of a window being broken at St. Michael School on Aug. 2. There are no suspects.
Police received a complaint of a theft of a donation jar from a local business on Aug. 2. As a result of the investigation a 53-year-old Weyburn man was charged with theft under $5,000 and he will be making his first court appearance later this month.
Police received a complaint from a local business of a male who had passed a number of NSF cheques on Aug. 3. The suspect was located a short time later and arrested. He was also the suspect in fraudulently obtaining food and lodging from earlier in July. The 26-year-old man was charged with numerous counts of fraud, and with fraudulently obtaining food and lodging. He will be making his first court appearance on these charges later in August.

Meantime, the Weyburn RCMP was involved in a slow-speed pursuit of a vehicle out of Estevan on Aug. 3, after the Estevan police attempted to stop an erratic driver in that city. The driver refused to stop and headed northwest out of Estevan on Highway 39 at speeds between 50 and 70 km an hour.
The Weyburn RCMP helped in the pursuit by laying a spike belt near Midale; the driver attempted to swerve around it but ended up puncturing the passenger-side tires. The suspect continued driving until a second spike belt was deployed near Halbrite, which punctured the driver's side tires as well. The driver still drove on at slow speeds for another four miles until the car stopped as it was unable to continue due to the tire damage.
After a brief struggle with the lone occupant, officers from Estevan and the Weyburn RCMP arrested a 44-year-old man and he was taken back to Estevan where he was remanded in custody. He appeared in court on Aug. 7 on numerous charges, including impaired driving, flight from police, driving without a valid driver's licence and possession of a controlled substance.
