The Weyburn Police Service are investigating a number of reports of using a particular social media sight to bully teenage females. The police wish to remind everyone that bullying of any kind, cyberbullying or actual physical bullying, is wrong and can be dealt with by charges under either the city bylaw or Criminal Code as is the case.
As a result of the efforts of a number of store owners and the quick work of the police, a group of two people from an organized shoplifting ring were identified and arrested on Mar. 18. Two 28-year-old males from Regina are facing a number of theft related charges. A large amount of the property was recovered.
In an unrelated incident the police investigated a report of an internal theft from a local business on Mar. 18. This resulted in a 19-year-old male being charged with theft.
At 1:10 p.m. on Friday, the Weyburn Police Service, Weyburn Fire Department and Sask-Energy responded to a report of a damaged gas meter at a local business. The area was cordoned off until SaskEnergy quickly determined that there was no leakage and the damage was secured.
City police responded to a report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle collison at Highway 39 and Third Street on Friday. Injuries were minor and the individual people got themselves to the hospital. The subsequent investigation showed that a 30-year-old male driver from Regina was issued a ticket for disobeying a stop sign.
An off-duty police officer reported an erratic driver being observed at an active crosswalk on Mar. 20. A plate number was obtained and the matter is still under investigation. The vehicle was not from Weyburn.
The city police received a report of physical bullying occuring on the walk home from school on Mar. 20. This matter is still under investigation.
The police were called in the early morning hours to a local bar regarding the theft of a vehicle on Mar. 21. Subsequent investigation showed this vehicle was driven a short distance and was parked and set on fire, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.As a result of the investigation a 35-year-old male from Virden, Man., was arrested and has been charged with a number of offences.
The WPS were called to mediate a domestic situation between a 29-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man on Mar. 21. No further police action was required.
A 26-year-old man came to the city police office to report the theft of his vehicle on Mar. 21. He was intoxicated and belligerent which resulted in his arrest for uttering threats, and is facing charges.
The police responded to a call for assistance at a local hotel lobby where a person was passed out on Friday. A 52-year-old male from Regina was arrested for being drunk in public and was lodged in cells until sober.
City police wish to remind residents that as the warm weather arrives, melting the snow, some side streets may become very rutted and difficult to drive on.
Regardless of the issue that causes the roadway to be rutted, drivers are reminded that they are still responsible for the safe and legal operation of their vehicle.
