A two-day municipal campaign training workshop for women has been rescheduled. The workshop, originally set for Saturday and Sunday, has now been reset for the weekend of Sept. 22-23, at Weyburn City Hall.

The workshop, originally set for Saturday and Sunday, has now been reset for the weekend of Sept. 22-23, at Weyburn City Hall.
The workshop, one of two being offered in Saskatchewan, is being put on by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).
The workshop is aimed at helping women overcome the obstacles they face inrunning for municipal office, with the City of Weyburn and all other towns and villages holding municipal elections this fall.
Weyburn's Mayor Debra Button will be one of the featured speakers, as she will share about how she got into politics and what she had to overcome in the process.
In an earlier interview, Mayor Button expressed the hope that not only women who are planning to run for municipal office would enrol, but any women who might be helping in an election campaign also, as there is much they can learn about the political process.
"We hope that the Weyburn venue will draw a large number of registrants from the Weyburn and surrounding area," said Mayor Button.
The Status of Women Canada is providing funding to FCM to hold the workshops, with the other Saskatchewan workshop to be held in Regina, and others being held across Canada.
Canada currently ranks 42nd out of 189 countries in terms of how many women are involved in politics. Based on current numbers, Canada would need 1,471 more women elected to municipal office to reach the target set by the United Nations for 30 per cent female participation in government.
