Sports wrap up with Bruce Penton

The Atom Carlyle Cougars finished their season this past week with a hard-fought series against Kipling. Unfortunately, the team ended up losing the series in three games. In a strange twist, the away team ended up winning each game.

The Pee Wee Cougars finished off league play with two games against Lampman and one against Redvers. The first Lampman game was a physical one. Both sides came out hitting hard, despite the fact that it was the day of loveValentine's Day.

As of press time Thursday morning the Weyburn Red Wings should have been in a 2-2 tie with the Kindersley Klippers. But as fate would have it the Wings have to make an uphill climb to get things done.

Story:The Bantam Cougars entered league play offs facing the Oxbow Jr. Huskies. Game #1 was played on home ice Feb.28th. The Cougars struck first with an early goal from Brayden Starr assisted by Kirkland Chalus and Drake Smith.

The Weyburn Comprehensive School curling teams have once again dominated the high school curling scene.

The Estevan Bruins dropped the third straight game in their best-of-seven series with the Yorkton Terriers, with a 3-2 loss Wednesday night.

The Apex midget AA Bruins cleaned up their league playoff series with the Regina Flames in a no-contest sweep. Game one saw the Bruins dominate, finishing with a 13-1 win at the Civic on March 5.

The Sherritt Coal peewee AA Bruins began their best-of-three league playoff series versus the Moose Jaw Warriors on the weekend, with both teams emerging with a win after the first two games. The Bruins took game one on the road 6-3.

For one more year the Elecs fell short, and for one more year Weyburn has bragging rights. The finals of the 76th McLeod series started with the Estevan Elecs with a slight lead, very slight, at 129-128.
