Elmer Franks of Weyburn will be inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame on Saturday, Aug. 17, in Battleford, Sask. Elmer was born December 20, 1934, in Maidstone, Sask.

The Power Dodge Estevan Bruins have acquired 2000-born goaltender Keenan Rancier from the BCHL's Prince George Spruce Kings, concluding a future considerations deal made at the national junior hockey trade deadline on Jan. 10.

Eight members of the Estevan Trapshooting Club travelled to Saskatoon from July 11-14 for the Provincial Trapshooting Championships. Fifty-one shooters from Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba attended.

The Weyburn Beavers started a three-game home series against the Fort McMurray Giants on Tuesday night. The game continued until a thunderstorm hit at the bottom of the eighth.

The Oxbow Chiefs have clinched top spot for the regular season in the Saskota Baseball League. The Chiefs wrapped up first place when the Estevan Tower Wolves dropped a 10-9 decision on the road to the Carlyle Cougars on Wednesday night.

The Southeast Performance Pump midget AAA Twins dropped a pair of games to the Saskatoon Cubs last week. The Twins lost 7-4 in the first game and 8-5 in the second, leaving the club with a 12-14 record in league play.

The organizers trying to bring junior football to southeast Saskatchewan are having a meeting this month to recruit players and sponsors. The session will take place July 22 at the Western Star Hotel in Estevan at 7 p.m.

One of Jace Carlisle’s final junior golf tournaments before heading off to university also proved to be one of his best.

Team Canada’s women’s waterpolo team, including Weyburn’s Kelsey Jensen as one of the goalkeepers, advanced as far as the bronze medal game at the Summer Universiade Games in Naples, Italy.
