Weyburn Minor Football is holding a WMF Football Day at the Minor Football field on Saturday, Sept. 7 — but there will be no viewing of the Riders-Blue Bombers at the Banjo Bowl.

The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs football team is making its final preparations before the start of the 2019 season. The Elecs faced the Weyburn Comprehensive School Eagles on Aug. 30 in an exhibition game at the Woodlawn Athletic Field.

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings made a trade on Wednesday with the Kindersley Klippers. The Wings traded Left Winger, Dawson McKenzie, in exchange for forward Kai Studler, and the CJHL list rights of Colby Ralston.

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings hosted the Yorkton Terriers Wednesday night for the second preseason game of the year.

Weyburn powerlifters Mikayla Lohse, Natalie Hastings and Brianna Swyryda competed in the World Sub-Junior/Junior Championships hosted in Regina on Aug. 26-31. Hastings competed in the sub-junior class in the 63 kg weight category, and placed fifth.

Weyburn-born NFL player Brett Jones was released by the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday, and he is now a free agent.

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings played their first preseason game on Tuesday night in Estevan against the Bruins. The Bruins were first on the scoreboard withTanner Manz scoring with less than three minutes left in the second period.

The Estevan Bruins split their first two games of the preseason. Estevan opened the exhibition slate with a 7-2 win over the Notre Dame Hounds on Monday night in a rookies game for both teams.

A player for the Red team reached for the puck on a scoring attempt during the Red-and-White game, held at the end of the fall training camp for the Weyburn Red Wings on Monday afternoon at Crescent Point Place.
