The oldest player at this year’s Estevan Strippers Molson’s Spring Bust recreation hockey tournament is a 75-year-old goaltender who still loves the game. John Garbutt plays goal for the Yorkton Old Relics team.

It hasn’t taken long for Brian Gallaway to find success in the growing sport of quidditch. Gallaway, the son of David and Kim Gallaway, now resides in Red Deer, Alberta, where he competes with the Central Alberta Centaurs team.

Seven members of the Weyburn Cobra Wrestling team traveled to Windsor, Ont. to compete in the cadet and juvenile National Wrestling Championships from April 7 to 9. During day one of the competition, the boys took to the mats.

The Power Dodge Estevan Bruins season is over, but head coach and general manager Chris Lewgood is still pleased with the strides taken by the team this season.

The Estevan Mermaids synchronized swimming club wrapped up a busy year with their annual water show on Saturday night at the RM of Estevan Aquatic Centre. All members of the Mermaids were able to showcase what they have learned this season.

Saskatchewan’s largest recreation hockey tournament offered five days of games for local hockey fans. The Estevan Strippers 35th annual Molson Spring Bust Tournament from April 5 to 9 at the three arenas in Estevan.

The Estevan Comprehensive School (ECS) Elecs senior badminton team was impressive at their home tournament on Saturday. Elecs players picked up medals in four of the five divisions. In boys singles, Sage Dayman won gold and Cameron Rioux won silver.

It took a large number of volunteers for Estevan to be able to host the Canadian Broomball Federation (CBF) national juvenile tournament. The tournament attracted some of Canada’s top young broomball players to Estevan from March 28 to 31.

Registrations are starting to come in for the annual Coal Country Run Walk. This year’s run-walk will take place on May 13, with Rotary Park inside the Woodlawn Regional Park serving as the start-finish line. A half-marathon relay, which is 21.

Frank Elberg is the first person from Estevan to be recognized with the Scotty Richardson Memorial Award for his commitment to curling.
