There was certainly no shortage of goals for the Estevan Sherritt Coal Bruins and Weyburn Wings on Saturday.

Many local athletes came home from the 2014 Saskatchewan Winter Games last week with a new friend hanging around their neck.

The Estevan Apex Bruins won two of their last three games on the road to ensure they would finish in fourth place in the South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League standings.

The Weyburn Red Wings are fighting hard for the 10th and last place for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League playoffs. Flin Flon is one point behind Weyburn for 10th, with a game in hand.

With a 4-1 loss to the Battlefords North Stars on Friday, the odds of the CanElson Drilling Estevan Bruins catching the Humboldt Broncos for sixth place in the SJHL got slimmer.

Team Southeast won a bronze medal in the mix medal competition at the Saskatchewan Winter Games, held in Prince Albert from Feb. 16 to 22. There were nine members of the Weyburn Cobra Wrestling Club who competed in the Winter Games.

The Crescent Point Bantam AA Wings have had a very busy second half of our season. Since Christmas the team has played 18 games with a record of 12-3-3. The Wings had two northern road trips with success coming back from Saskatoon with a 2-2-1.

The Weyburn Red Wings fell 5-2 to the visiting Kindersley Klippers on February 16 at Crescent Point Place. Head Coach Bryce Thoma said the Wings came out flat in and picked up the pace in the second and third period.

The Weyburn Curling Club will be hosting the 2014 Saskatchewan Masters Curling Championship from Wednesday, February 26 to Sunday, March 2. This competition is for curlers who are 60 years of age or older.
