The Estevan Apex Bruins stared down two stiff challenges on the weekend, and they came to play.

On January 24, the Weyburn Curling Club will once again host the world's oldest international curling competition and the Strathcona Cup curlers from Scotland. "They were our guests in 1993 and 2003," said Weyburn's own Harry Plemel.

Weyburn Drillers player Taylor Colbow has a tight battle with a defender from the Notre Dame Hounds to get control of the puck, not far from the Hounds' net, during a midget girls hockey game on Wednesday evening at Crescent Point Place.

Although the games counted as two losses in the standings, the Estevan Sherritt Coal Bruins had arguably their best weekend of the season with the Yorkton Terriers in town.
