Nearly a month ago, a couple of members from the Royal Canadian Legion’s Estevan branch appeared before Estevan city council and asked for financial assistance to help pay down significant debts facing the organization.

Thanks, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, for going after a rarity in Canada: the “wealthy” small business owner. The prime minister has said the government plans to eliminate tax incentives that he believes benefit wealthy small business owners.

The new 2017-18 school year got underway on Tuesday for all students in the Southeast Cornerstone and Holy Family school divisions, with students making their way to class on foot, by car or by bus.

As someone told me the other day, “August is like the Sunday of the year.” And I think it couldn’t be truer. Granted this individual is a teacher, so he definitely sees August as the Sunday before going back to work on the Monday (September).

Though a concept foreign to Prairie dwellers, I’m planning to plant vegetables this fall for harvest in late winter or early spring. As much as I miss Saskatchewan (and I truly do), I appreciate the ability to harvest food throughout the entire year.

It may be because we’re currently binge watching a CIA drama, but I’ve got spies on the brain. So much so that our first week of Willms Grove Elementary will be a spy themed week.
