Weyburn Review

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of April 30 to May 6: During the reporting period, police received 82 calls for service.

Weyburn's own Brett Jones is now property of the Calgary Stampeders. Jones was picked seventh in the second round and 16th overall in the Canadian Football League (CFL) draft held May 6. He went into the draft ranked eighth overall.

The competitive girls from the Weyburn Gymnastics Club attended a competition in Yorkton at the Springers Invitational on April 5 and 6.

The Lomond 4-H is busy getting different things in order. On April 14, the club held a very successful steak fry and slave auction at the Tribune Hall.

World-class artist Peter Tucker set up his home in Weyburn last summer, moving from Montreal for a fresh start. For the months of May and June, ten of his past works are on display at the Weyburn Credit Union Gallery.

The STARS Lottery in Saskatchewan has officially launched with 2,206 prizes worth over $3.8 million. In its inaugural year in 2012, STARS generated more than $1.6 million - a significant source of funding to help keep STARS in the sky.

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden unexpected, tragic death of Darla Mae Yurkowski (nee Carlson) of Halbrite. Darla was taken from us tragically on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the age of 44.

With deep sadness, we wish to give notice of the sudden passing of our dear mother, Eunice Henheffer on April 26, 2013 at the age of 92 years. Eunice was predeceased by her husband, Herb; her five sisters and two brothers.

On Monday, December 10, 2012, Rose Anne Drescher (nee Glasser) of Moose Jaw, and formerly of Weyburn, passed away at the age of 85 years.

Health care needs in Weyburn are growing as the population and business base continues to grow and expand, but there is a real situation developing that may have a bigger effect on further growth than almost anything else.
