Weyburn Review

The Stoughton Curling Club will host the 2011-12 junior mens curling championships from Jan. 5 to 9. A total of 12 teams will compete at this event, after qualifying from either the northern playdowns, the southern playdowns or qualifying spiels.

David Andrew Houston, late of Weyburn passed away December 23, 2011, at the age of 90 years. David was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Eliza Houston; sister, Agnes Hall.

Game action between the Weyburn midget Q'Max Wild and Estevan comes to a halt, after goaltender Dustin Dreis (No. 31), lands on a loose puck by the net. The Q'Max Wild hosted Estevan at Crescent Point Place on Dec. 27, and lost 15-3.

Painted Pony Petroleum is continuing work with wells on their properties in southeast Saskatchewan. In an update on their operations provided shortly before Christmas, Painted Pony indicated they have begun a delineation program with three wells (1.

Tessa Wright, volunteer with the Weyburn Humane Society, plays with some of the cats at the shelter. Currently, there are many cats and dogs available for adoption at the Humane Society.

A Weyburn attraction of national appeal is the former church of preacher / politician Tommy Douglas. The Calvary Baptist Church was built in Weyburn in 1906 by volunteers and moved to its present location on South Hill in 1985, opening in 1991.
