After a tense start to the new year, members of the Canora branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation were able to breath a collective sigh of relief on January 12 when branch executive was re-organized.

In the six-team tournament Saturday and Sunday, which included Canora Red and Canora Black Cobras teams, Preeceville won the A-side final. Yorkton won the B-side final and Kamsack won the C-side.

To address the dwindling interest in junior curling in the Canora area, a curling clinic was organized for January 10 and the organizer was pleasantly surprised when 28 youth signed up from Canora, Preeceville, Sturgis, Norquay, Kamsack and Yorkton.

On January 9, 18 players involved in atom and peewee-aged hockey took a shooting and scoring clinic at the Civic Centre offered by Jeff Cole of Moosomin.

Jason Matychuk, 30, of Canora, who was arrested in 2014 on charges of sexual interference with a person under the age of 16 and possession of child pornography, was back in Provincial Court in Yorkton on January 11 facing similar new charges.

Ten acute care patients in Canora Hospital were among many clients of Sunrise Health Region to receive a special gift from the “Breast Friends” group of Foam Lake which produces cookbooks as a fundraiser for cancer research.

All the students at Canora Composite School were invited to attend a presentation by Jason Prokopetz, a STARS paramedic, on January 13.
