After unseasonably warm temperatures melted the snow last year and forced the cancellation of the Duck Mountain Loppet, organizers of the event are expecting cross-country skiers will be especially enthusiastic returning next weekend.

A long time ago an English engineer lost his bid to build a bridge over the river Thames in London. At about the same time he read a beautiful poem that had been translated from Chinese into English.

The Rick Kinaschuk rink of Benito topped the annual Arran Mixed Open Bonspiel held January 22 to 28. A total of 16 rinks participated in the bonspiel, said Rick Nahnybida, an organizer.

For 25 years, Kamsack’s handicapped residents have been able to get the transportation they need around the community by making use of the Kamsack Handibus.

A primary care paramedic, who recently served as a lieutenant in a Manitoba fire department and was named the community’s firefighter of the year for 2015, began work on February 1 as Kamsack’s first director of protective services.

The Kevin Ebert rink, with Richard Johnston as the skip, topped the Norquay Annual Open Bonspiel held January 17 to 21. A total of 18 teams participated, said Rubieann Kluke.

A Veregin couple who enjoy the sport of archery has begun the process of establishing an archery club in Kamsack.

A second series of 10 weeks of gymnastics instruction for the 2017-18 year will begin in Kamsack on February 7. The first session of instruction with Sandy Bedore as facilitator began in October and ended in December.

With another 150 plates of ham and perogies served, the Veregin Hall rests a bit more firmly as the community’s social centre.
