The annual SaskAbilities Transit Services Report was presented to Yorkton Council Monday. SaskAbilities has operated the combined transit system since 2012.

City approves replacing its mower fleet

The City of Yorkton's grass cutting fleet is being replaced in 2013. "The City's grass cutting fleet has five riding mowers that are used throughout the city to maintain parks, ditches, ball diamonds and open spaces.

New provincial park named

The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport is pleased to announce that the Saskatchewan Legislature has approved the creation of the 35th provincial park in Saskatchewan, which will be designated Great Blue Heron Provincial Park.

Liquor changes on tap

Thirty-nine of the province's 77 updated liquor regulations announced last fall are now in effect as a result of policy changes made by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA).

New money for local surgical care

Sunrise Health Region is receiving $503,198 from the Saskatchewan government to improve the quality and safety of surgical care. The funding will enable the Health Region to enhance home care and therapy services for postsurgery patients.

"Mugged abroad" fraud hits Yorkton

Another email scam is making its rounds in Yorkton. Last week, at least two people in the city had their email accounts hacked and an urgent message sent to all their email contacts requesting funds to get them out of a jam in Europe.

Tourism's importance marked

Tourism Week has been declared in the city by Yorkton Council for June 9-to-15. "Tourism contributes $1.67 billion annually to the provincial economy and provides employment for 11 per cent of Saskatchewan's current working population.

Funds raised for house

Numbers released today show that this year's 20th McHappy Day event raised more than $130,000 for Ronald McDonald House® Saskatchewan. The national fundraising event, held May 8th, was a resounding success.
