The 2019 edition of the Yorkton Bantam A Tournament was held in the city Jan. 11-13.

A 4-H curling event was held at the Yorkton curling rink in the Gallagher Centre on Saturday with teams from around the region.

Basketball provided some dramatic battles on the court this week, resulting in some hard-won victories -- laced with some bitter disappointments. Sacred Heart’s senior boys took on Melville Jan. 11, with a three team round robin tournament.

The Yorkton Rawtec Maulers did not enjoy a visit to the Duncan McNeill Arena last week where they dropped a 4-0 contest to the Notre Dame Hounds.

The Preeceville Pats IP hockey team kicked off the hockey action for the month of January with a one-day hockey tournament at the Preeceville Arena on January 5.

Novice hockey players in the city were given a taste of playing the game outdoors as the six teams in the city took part in a series of games at the outdoor rink at Knights of Columbus Park Saturday.

The Canora Christmas Bonspiel was held from December 27 to 29 at the Sylvia Fedoruk Centre, and included players of all ages. A total of 12 teams each played three games during the three-day event.

The Canora IP Cobras hosted a Cross Ice Jamboree with the help of the Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA) on December 16. Two teams from Kamsack and one from Norquay joined the Cobras for the jamboree, according to Genevieve Shukin, Cobras manager.

After struggling to find wins coming off the Christmas break the Yorkton Terrier offence erupted for a big win in Weyburn on the weekend.
