The Yorkton United U10 Girls soccer team captured their second gold medal of the season in as many tournaments with a thrilling sudden death shoot out win over Prince Albert Celtic. at the Winterfest tournament held in Regina over the weekend.

At the start of the 2015/16 SHSAA basketball season, Sacred Heart Saints’ head coach Garrett Karcha said that he was confident that Jake Javier would be one of his top offensive weapons.

They were the closest four games that the Saints have played in any one York City Classic, however the results were not what Saints head coach Garrett Karcha was looking for.

The Yorkton Storm Swim Club sent two swimmers to the fourth annual Optimist Prairie Cup in Regina this past weekend. The meet was designed to prepare the competitors for the upcoming championship type meets that they will be encountering.

The 50 and over senior curling “funspiel” was held this week at the Gallagher Centre in Yorkton. Rinks were from Langenburg, Melville, Saltcoats, and Tonkin area, as well as 13 rinks from Yorkton.

For the past five years the senior boys’ basketball teams at Yorkton’s two high schools - the Regional and Sacred Heart - have set aside their differences to co-host a 12-team, two-day basketball tournament.

Steve Laycock - skip of the back-to-back Saskatchewan men’s provincial champion curling team and a 2015 Brier bronze medallist – is used to seeing skilled curlers on the ice. He’s just not used to seeing so many talented curlers aged 17 and younger.

Everyone loved it and everyone had a good time so, so we’re going to do this every year from now on.

Over the weekend nearly 300 soccer players ranging in age from three to 50 took part in Yorkton United’s end-of-season indoor soccer tournament at the Gallagher Centre Flexihall.
