Yorkton This Week

Yorkton was well represented on various Team Canada Selects football teams, who competed in Florida during winter break. Players tried out for the teams back in November.

The Yorkton RawTec Maulers’ season has come to an end. After making it to the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League semi-finals, the first-place Regina Pat Canadians were able to sweep the best-of-five series against the Maulers.

The Yorkton Kinsmen Midget AA Terriers are off to the finals of the league playoffs. In round two, the semi finals, Yorkton was matched with Weyburn in the best-of-five series, and Yorkton came out with three wins in four games.

The Yorkton Gardon Crushers of the South Saskatchewan Female Bantam ‘A’ Hockey League are off to the league finals against the Moose Jaw Mavericks after winning their semifinal series 2-1 against the Regina Cougars.

On March 4-5, the Yorkton Blitz Volleyball Club hosted a 16U Saskatchewan Volleyball Association sanctioned volleyball tournament.

Each month a male and a female student is selected as the SHHS Saint of the Month. Saint of the Month students are nominated by staff and students of SHHS.

The Yorkton Terriers have not made it beyond the first round of Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League playoffs for three years. The 2013-2014 season was their last time.

A former Yorkton RCMP jail guard has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and breach of trust and will be going to prison although it has not been revealed for how long.

A local lawyer will be the Saskatchewan Provincial Court’s newest judge. Donna Taylor, an associate at the Yorkton firm Leland Campbell, was appointed to the bench last week.
