Yorkton This Week

The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for four Employee of the Year Awards. One award will be presented in each of four categories - Front Line Employee; Support; Manager; and Spirit.

My goodness, it seems like every week the hyperbole gets more extreme.

The Western Development Museum (WDM) is putting together a special exhibit to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017, but Yorkton won’t see it until 2018.

In the 1950s, the Avro Arrow was touted as the most advanced military aircraft ever designed and a testament to Canadian ingenuity. The project, to build a fighter jet capable of intercepting Soviet nuclear bombers, was also a huge employer.

The Yorkton Terriers have had a week full of ups and downs. The past week has brought them three games resulting in an overtime loss, two overtime wins and a lot of penalty minutes.

It’s been a busy week for the Yorkton RawTec Maulers as they wrapped up their regular season in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. The final week kicked off on Wednesday, Feb.

The Yorkton Kinsmen Terriers of the SSMHL Midget league skated to a 9-2 victory over the Lumsden/Bethune Lions on Thursday, Feb. 16 to put a cap on their regular season.

Curling is one of the world’s oldest team sports. Canada has undoubtedly taken a keen interest in the sport, with world championships and Olympic gold medals to prove it. On a smaller and closer scale, curling is Saskatchewan’s provincial sport.

On Feb. 11-12,the Saskatchewan Provincial 4-H Curling Championships were held at the Yorkton Curling Club.

We’ve had some very good news of late. Some of this news has to do with the numbers that are us and some of it has to do with the numbers that mean the most to us. The numbers that are us are the 2016 Census numbers.
