Yorkton This Week

Sometimes the older games are the most fun. One of those games is Jenga, now often seen in generic guise as the tower building game.

The Saskatchewan Visual Art Project came into Yorkton Saturday afternoon at St. Andrew’s Church. The project is for all high school students in the province to highlight the importance of peace, unity and care for the Earth.

I watched the first US Presidential debate on Monday night and it was, pretty much, void of fireworks. I felt that Hillary Clinton did a good job and stood her ground, but did not do enough to win over any voters that weren’t already in her corner.

Grade 4 classes from Saltcoats, Dr. Brass, Churchbridge, St. Paul’s, St. Mary’s, Invermay and Canora schools were in Yorkton this past Tuesday and Wednesday to help harvest the Pizza Farm.

Culture Days in the city will be highlighted Saturday, Oct. 1. The days are marked as way to raise awareness of music, theatre and film will be held at the Yorkton Regional High School.

The Holodomor, which took place in Ukraine in 1932 and 1933, resulted in the deaths of millions of people, but because if was covered up by the former USSR, it has not been well known.

How quickly things change. It was not that many years ago the Canadian Prairies were talked about as the ideal location to raise livestock.

Value Village was the source for fall fun during Saturday’s Family Fun Day. Free popcorn, pumpkin decorating, prizes, face painting and a BBQ put on by Paws N Claws Animal Rescue were among the activities available for the public.
