The Yorkton Terriers start the defence of their Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League championship in earnest with the start of the regular season Friday.

For the first time in 15 years the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce has bestowed two life memberships. Ruth Shaw and Allan Bailey received their honourary memberships at a lunch Thursday. Dick DeRyk presented Shaw's citation.

The Moose Jaw Vanier Vikings couldn't get out of Yorkton fast enough on Saturday. The Vikings were the Yorkton Regional Raider Gridders' first victim of the season as they lost 59-7 to the boys in orange in Yorkton's season opener.

Mr. Shawn Takatch of Yorkton Saskatchewan, beloved husband of Kim passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday August 26, 2013, at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Shawn fought a long and courageous battle with cancer.
