Yorkton This Week

The Yorkton Pee Wee Tier II hockey tournament was held over the weekend. Host arenas were the Farrell Agencies Arena and the Kinsmen Arena. All teams were guaranteed four games and games featured one 15-minute period and two 20-minute periods.

Mrs. Norma Gunderson beloved wife of Merv of Yorkton, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, January 7, 2012. She was 73 years of age. Norma was predeceased by her parents Lance and Selma Elliot, and one brother Allan.

Mrs. Nettie Klimchuk beloved wife of Lorn Klimchuk of Yorkton. Natalia Klimchuk was born December 27, 1936 in the Whitebeach farming community and passed away peacefully on January 2, 2012 at the age of 75 years.

Mrs. Orla Kutas of Ituna, beloved wife of Bernie passed away on January 3, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital in Melville at the age of 70 years.

The City of Yorkton is once again going to offer the Discounted Bus Pass Program through the Ministry of Social Services. Council unanimously approved signing a Letter of Understanding with the Ministry at its regular meeting Monday.

The Cab Clothing Yorkton Regional High School Male Athlete of the Month for October is Grey McKen, who starred on both the junior and senior football teams in the summer/fall. He was also named a co-captain on the junior team.

Yorkton Council made an interesting decision at its regular meeting when it chose to fund a cost overrun of the storm pond being constructed on Dracup Avenue, but not before cutting the landscaping element of the project.

Mrs. Margaret Gustafson of Yorkton, widow of Carl passed away January 4, 2012 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home at the age of 94 years.
