Yorkton This Week

We've come through the first decade of the 21st century, and it seemed appropriate to revisit a chapter marking the new millennium in my book, The Sacred Balance (Greystone Books/DSF, 1997). The following is from the final chapter.

The Yorkton Sacred Heart Saints junior girls basketball team took part over the weekend in the Melville Comprehensive School basketball tournament over the weekend.

The Yorkton Terriers made a move that will have a major impact on their present and future by adding Justin Buzzeo and Jeremy Boyer from the Humboldt Broncos in a future considerations trade.

Laketown Leaders sponsors Noon Pot Luck Luncheons on Mondays at the Saltcoats Stirling Room. Scheduled dates are Jan. 17, Feb. 21, March 21 and April 18. The handi bus runs on the third Thursdays of a month.

Yorkton Citizens On Patrol sent a letter to Yorkton Council seeking financial support for 2011.

Record high employment for the month of December helped Saskatchewan close out the year with the second lowest unemployment rate in Canada. Saskatchewan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 5.5 per cent is well below the national average of 7.

The Yorkton Terriers Novice Frame Techs won the A-side championship where they beat Moosomin in a 9-2 win in the final. That came after they beat the Carlet's Terriers 7-3 in the semi finals. The tourney was in Melville.

Each month a male and a female student is selected as the SHHS Saint of the Month. Saint of the Month students are nominated by staff and students of SHHS.

The City of Yorkton is looking to become involved in an interesting pilot project, if the city is one of two locales selected by Sask Power to take part.
