Yorkton This Week

One of the more annoying notions in politics is that you have to have certain view on certain issues simply because of your general political beliefs. It just ain't so.

Participating in activities and sports outdoors during the summer months is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. But most importantly, you must remember to protect your skin from harmful ultra-violet (UV) rays.

Saturday afternoon was the day of the Rider Pa-ride (not a typo) held on Broadway St., to help celebrate Rider pride in Yorkton. Nine-year-old Auston Roberts was among the hundreds of spectators at the first-ever Saskatchewan Roughrider parade.

Over the next few months, those months where the sun is actually warm, and snow is but a memory, there will be a host of walkathons in Yorkton.

The first 'Give the Gift of Life Fun Run' will be held in Yorkton Saturday June 26. Audrey Parisloff, local organizer of the upcoming walk, said the walk has been held in Saskatoon and Regina the past two years.

Yorkton Council has accepted the only tender it received for the City's 2010 asphalt program.

Leaps and Bounds dance studio performed once again, a fantastic rendition of "Rhythms of the World" Congratulations to Katie Vickers who graduated from dance this year.

Ken Orr of Churchbridge is going to need a slightly larger trophy cabinet. He was recently named Master Athlete of the Year at the Saskatchewan Sport Awards banquet held in Regina.

On May 1-2, the 2010 Senior National Taekwondo Championships were held in the Shaw Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. KEES Yorkton had three athletes participating in this event.
