Despite the lovely spring weather, a few artists attended the Battlefords Art Club weekly session Tuesday at the Don Ross Centre to hone their skills.

The Maidstone Legion Ladies' Auxiliary held their annual Mother's Day tea and bake sale on May 10 in the Legion Hall. Members had a successful day with an attendance of 67.

The fourth annual Champions of Mental Health Gala was held May 11, with six special awards handed out to individuals and groups who better the lives of the community's mentally ill.

It appears Blaine Lake is experiencing, like many other rural communities, a lack of volunteerism within the community, or maybe it's called a lack of volunteer enthusiasm.

Although many mothers are appreciated daily, there is one day in May set aside for official recognition. One hundred individuals enjoyed a Mother's Day champagne brunch held at the Blaine Lake Seniors' Centre May 12.
