This week my Cairns on Cinema column is devoted to awards season and the Oscar race. Trying to figure out who is actually winning the Oscar race, though, is a mug's game. One moment, one movie is ahead; the next moment it's something else.

It may have taken place a little behind schedule, but the gavel has been passed to a new president pf the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce.

What seemed to be a far fetched idea was brought up at a meeting of the Reigning Riders 4-H Club in July 2011,when a couple of the members mentioned they were interested in going to the National Finals Rodeo.

A big dose of Rider Pride was injected into the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce President's Banquet Tuesday. Steve Mazurak, vice-president of sales and marketing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, was the guest speaker of the event at Tropical Inn.

"There were a lot of people that went away from our weekend saying 'wow'," said Battlefords Skating Club president Krista Crockett of the STARSkate Competition that was held at the Civic Centre on the weekend.

Dear Editor We believe being at the helm of any organization can be complicated, since we are privileged to live in Canada with such a diverse population with opposing opinions.

The celebration of a new minister for the River Valley Anglican Parish, Diocese of Saskatoon, was held at St. John's Anglican Church in Borden Jan 29, to induct Rev. Debbie Ramage into the parish.

For the month of November, Country Corners 4-H Club had a general meeting. Members discussed bingo, curling and many other things. Nov. 20 the club had a fund day and executive training. Members played games and got to know members from other clubs.
