Two local musicians, Danielle Schmidt and Tricia Florence, are returning to the Battlefords as members of the award winning Greystone Singers for a concert at Battleford United Church on Sunday, Feb. 20, at 2:30 pm.

The northern and southern senior playdowns were held Feb. 10 to 13 and although their were two local teams at northerns, they will not be competing at provincials in Regina.

After the Cliff Lee bidding war, it turned out to be a pretty quiet off season. Detroit made a few moves and if Canadian slugger Justin Morneau can shake out the cobwebs from his last concussion the Twins will be in the mix.

If there is one thing Canada is known for, a rich cultural diversity would likely top the list. Feb. 8, during a citizenship ceremony held at Fort Battleford, 52 people from 18 different countries became part of the cultural mosaic that is Canada.

Get well wishes go out to Bernie Schliemann who is a patient in Battlefords Union Hospital. It is good to hear that Paul Kobernick is once again well and spending some recuperation time with his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Jackie in Saskatoon.

North Stars, coaches and fans alike have been waiting for this to happen since the calendar turned to 2011, but perhaps two players, Blake Tatchell and Colin Phaneuf are the happiest to have shaken their slumps.

What at first appeared to be a vehicle-pedestrian accident Wednesday, turned out to be a heart attack. North Battleford Fire and Emergency services responded to an EMS call at about 2:30 p.m.

The Borden Friendship Club held their annual Valentine's Tea for Telemiracle Feb. 11 in their club room, with about 40 out to enjoy strawberry shortcake. Over 20 door prizes were handed out and the 50/50 of $29 went to Kathleen Pederson.
