It's no doubt that we know this is December when we see the beautiful Christmas decorations in the lounge and the lovely, sparking lights of different colours on the Christmas tree. It just really puts you in the mood for this season of the year.

Saskatchewan's only professional ballet company performed a program of contemporary and classical works in North Battleford Saturday as part of the Ballet Across the Prairies tour.

Dear Editor My hat is off to William Wardill, who wrote the commentary, "Restore balance between needs and ability to pay," in the Dec. 1 issue of the News-Optimist.

The Battlefords Stars played two more games without a new head coach on the bench, and have now finally announced who their new bench boss will be for the remainder of the season.

We always enjoy the carol sing along sponsored by the Lutheran Church, held in Waseca Hall each December. This year's sing along will be held Sunday, Dec. 12 at 1:30 p.m. and will include a few added features.

For this month's News Watch column I thought I would try to do something a little more upbeat. Among the good news stories being touted by local officials has been the strength of the overall economy.

Bouquets and many thanks to Lisa Hornung and the community youth choir for the enjoyment you provide us all. The time, and talent of the children, their parents, Lisa, Jacque and Gary are certainly appreciated. Keep up the good work.

You're busy. You can see where you need to go. There's just one small little barricade in the way. It won't really matter if you drive around it, will it? Wrong.

Although temperatures were lower during the past week, there was not much wind, so we enjoyed some fine days, especially Sunday. Sunday was a beautiful sunny day.

As most people in the Battlefords were preparing for the holiday season of plenty, a small group of people took the time to remember those who starved to death in the Holodomor.
