Eleven vying for six city council seats in Humboldt

Though there was only one person interested in the mayor's job in Humboldt this term, 11 people are vying for the six seats on Humboldt's city council. Leon Fleischhacker and Rob Muench are the only incumbent councillors to throw their hats back into the ring. Councillors Phil Smith, Aaron Behiel and Gord Lees all decided against running again, and the sixth position was left vacant earlier this year with the resignation of Marilyn Scott. Fleischhacker and Muench are both fighting for their third terms on council, and they are being challenged by nine newcomers. Marc Dredhart, Kenton Flavel, Owen Hopfner, Larry Jorgenson, Francis Kunz, Linda Mattock, Roger Nordick, Larry Sunderland and Sandy Weyland have all accepted their nominations for a seat on council. The six elected will be seated around Mayor Malcolm Eaton, who was returned to office by acclamation. The municipal election will be held October 24 at polling stations around the city. The polls and polling areas will be posted at City Hall, on the City of Humboldt's website and at the Humboldt post office. Advance polls will be held October 18 at City Hall and October 20 at Caleb Village.
