Voters in rural and urban municipalities in the Humboldt region went to the polls on October 24, some electing new leaders, and others sticking with incumbents.

Voters in rural and urban municipalities in the Humboldt region went to the polls on October 24, some electing new leaders, and others sticking with incumbents.In the Town of Cudworth, voters went with their incumbent mayor, re-electing Harold Mueller (222 votes) over Peter Honaizer (53 votes). They also elected all of their incumbent councillors - Valerie Kuemper (223 votes), Peggy Becker (221 votes), Elaine Olexson (191 votes) and Bernadette Lange (189 votes) as well as two newcomers - Patti Cairns (223 votes) and Garry Frie (189 votes). Ron Cairns (180 votes) and Bill Cherneski (41) also ran for a council seat but were defeated. A total of 277 people voted in the election in Cudworth, which has a population of 770.In the Village of Jansen, population 126, 60 people voted in the council election. Kathy Jones (50 votes), Charles Jones (33 votes) and incumbent Elmer Kinzel (45 votes) were all elected to Jansen council, which now has three seats for councillors.Chris Bolton also ran in the election and received 27 votes.Mayor Albert Cardinal had been elected by acclamation earlier this fall.In the Village of Spalding's council election - former councillor Richelle Beaudry was elected mayor by acclamation - former mayor Norman Fouhse won one of the four council seats with 71 votes. Also elected were newcomers Marilyn Pigula (71 votes), Troy Hrisook (63 votes), and Wayne Thompson (79 votes).Also running were George VanDeWiele (17 votes) and Eldon Maryniak (23 votes).Eighty-eight people voted in the election. Spalding's population is 242.In the Village of Meacham, incumbent Marion Carlson and newcomer Robert Pearman were elected with 42 and 35 votes respectively. Incumbent Harley Lenuik and newcomer Jim Phillips were defeated. A total of 70 people voted in the election. The listed population of Meacham is 84.Meacham's new mayor, Flo Frank, was elected by acclamation.In the Village of Pilger, things got a little exciting in their mayoral race. There was a tie between the two candidates for mayor. Both incumbent Joyce Bauer and challenger Ardean Bregenser received 21 votes. The tie was settled on Monday night by drawing a name out of a hat.The winner was Joyce Bauer.Voter turnout for the election was terrific, with 42 out of approximately 50 eligible voters in the village casting a ballot.There was a huge upset in the Town of Wynyard election this fall. In the mayoral race, incumbent Sharon Armstrong, who had been in office since 1986, was defeated by challenger Ted Czarnecki 577 votes to 268.In the council election, 10 people were running for six seats. Elected to council were incumbents Albert Boylak (554 votes) and Danny Kucey (510 votes), and newcomers Fern Swinburnson (479 votes), Mike Prystai (465 votes), Jackie Babey (450 votes) and Tracy Jordan (449 votes). Defeated were incumbent Paul Lendzyk (404 votes) and challengers Jeff Fisher (363 votes), Yves Lalonde (314 votes) and Greg Senft (271 votes).A total of 848 people voted in Wynyard, the population of which is listed as 1,787.RM elections also took place in a few local municipalities.In the RM of Wolverine No. 340, there was 31 per cent voter turnout for the election of Reeve. Incumbent Bryan Gibney defeated challenger Don B. Williams by 122 votes to 79. In the RM of Humboldt, incumbent Reeve Jordan Bergermann was re-elected over challenger Leon Lueke, 168 votes to 106. A total of 275 people voted in the election. In the RM of Bayne, there was a battle over the Division 5 seat. Challenger Lloyd Doetzel won over incumbent Anton LaBrash, 18 votes to 13.
