Reva Bauer jumps into mayor's seat in Muenster

On election night, some candidates in the municipal election found out they'd won by looking on Facebook.In Reva Bauer's case, she found out she was the new mayor of the village of Muenster when she heard it announced on the local radio station.

On election night, some candidates in the municipal election found out they'd won by looking on Facebook.In Reva Bauer's case, she found out she was the new mayor of the village of Muenster when she heard it announced on the local radio station."I was a little overwhelmed," Bauer said. "I don't know if I totally accept that I'd won. But I'm very excited."Bauer won the election with 87 votes, ahead by 17 votes over incumbent mayor Benno Korte, who came second with 70 votes. The third candidate to run for mayor in the municipal elections was Pierre April, who received seven votes.Bauer has been living in Muenster since 2003, and works as the executive assistant at St. Peter's College, a position she has held since 2006. She is originally from Pilger, where her mother is the village's newly re-elected mayor.Like mother, like daughter?"My mom was really happy for me," Bauer confirmed, "but not just my mom, everybody in my family was happy for me."Bauer says she is looking forward to working with Muenster's four incumbent council members who were all re-elected to serve another term. They are: James Wasserman (153 votes), Bob Bergermann (147 votes), Dick Blechinger (145 votes), and David Hogemann (147 votes). The fifth candidate and running for council for the first time in these elections was Muenster resident Rehman Khan, who received 41 votes."I think they're a fantastic council," Bauer said of the four men. "I'm looking forward to working alongside them, and to getting in there and learning what it's all about."Muenster's first female mayor says she is honoured that the people in the community feel that she is a good person for the job."It's a privilege to be able to serve the people of Muenster," she stated. "It's something I'm really looking forward to doing."
