Few RM elections this year

Very few elections. That's the situation once again in the Rural Municipalities (RMs) in the Humboldt area.

Very few elections. That's the situation once again in the Rural Municipalities (RMs) in the Humboldt area. RMs around the province called for nominations for Reeves, and Divisions 1, 3 and 5 councillors in September, closing the nomination period on the same day as urban municipalities did for their upcoming elections.Elections will also be held on the same date in both rural and urban municipalities - October 24. And again, like the urban municipalities, the RM councillors elected this year will serve four-year terms instead of the two-year terms that were common in the past. This will mean that elections in the RMs will no longer take place every year as they do now - with the two-year term, half the council is elected every fall. Those elected to council positions last year were to serve three-year terms before also switching to four year terms in their next call. That may make it easier to harder to find councillors, but it will definitely mean fewer elections, though they are few and far between in this area this year already. Elections will be held for the Reeve positions in both the RM of Humboldt and the RM of Wolverine (based in Burr). In the RM of Humboldt race, incumbent Jordan Bergermann is up against newcomer Leon Lueke. The rest of the RM of Humboldt council remains the same, with incumbents elected by acclamation - Harold Jenkins to Division 1, Reginald Schidlowsky to Division 3 and Russell Kemper to Division 5. Other membres of council include Ed Brockmeyer (Division 2), Clarence Puetz (Division 4) and Larverne Ilg (Division 6). In the RM of Wolverine, incumbent Reeve Bryan Gibey is up against newcomer Don. B. Williams, who has served on the RM council in the past, but not in the term immediately before. A new councillor was elected by acclamation to Wolverine's Division 1 - Craig Bartel replaces Thomas Senko. The Division 3 incumbent Elise Dale was also elected by acclamation, as was incumbent Michael Syroteuk in Division 5. Division 2, 4 and 6 councillors for Wolverine are, respectively, Ron Suchy, Sandy Flory and Regan Schlacter. The RM of Bayne is holding an election for their Division 5 seat. Incumbent Anton LaBrash is up against newcomer Lloyd Doetzel in that race. Meanwhile, incumbent Reeve Gerald Picouye was re-elected by acclamation, as was Division 3 councillor Glenn Yaworski. A second call for nominations has gone out for the Division 1 seat, left empty by George Greuel, as well as for the Division 6 seat, which has been open since last year when Warren Perozuk stepped down.In the RM of Usborne, based in Lanigan, there will be an election, but not for Reeve, nor for Divisions 1, 3 or 5. Instead, they will be holding a by-election for Division 4, as the councillor from that Division, Ken Bartel, moved into the Reeve position, replacing Wilf Snider. The Divisions 1, 3 and 5 seats were all filled by acclammation - Ryan Morningstar in Division 1, Howard Toews in Division 3 and Fred Toman in Division 5. Divisions 2 and 6 councillors remain Jack Gibney and Don Shantz respectively. The RM of Lake Lenore has to do a second call for nominations for their Division 3 seat. The RM which is based in St. Brieux, has incumbent Reeve Jean Kernaleguen returning by acclamation, along with Division 1 councilor Collin Martin and Division 5 councillor Shawn Blandin. The Division 3 seat, recently held by James Gerwing, remains open. The second round of nominations will close October 3. Other councillors include Wayne Folden (Division 2), Dave MacDonald (Div. 4) and Patrick Assie (Div. 6). The RM of Three Lakes (based in Middle Lake) had all of their incumbents returned by acclamation, The Reeve remains Allen Baumann, and councillors for Divisions 1, 3 and 5, respectively, remain Vaughn Irlbeck, Danny Rung, and Edwin Nagy.Other members of council include Phillip Gaudreau (Div. 2), Lyle Lepsenyi (Div. 4) and Marvin Martinka (Div. 6). There won't be any elections in the RM of Prairie Rose, based in Jansen, either. Reeve Bruce Elke was re-elected to his seat by acclamation, as was incumbent Division 1 councillor Dwayne Waithman, and incumbent Division 3 councillor Garth Burns. Newcomer David Paetsch takes over the Division 5 seat from Terry Renz, who chose not to run again. Other members of council include Darin Pedersen (Division 2), David Arnst (Div. 4) and Chris Wildeman (Div. 6.).In the RM of Lakeside, all incumbent councillors were re-elected by acclamation - Reeve Arnold Boyko, Kerry Holderness (Div. 1), Wilf Berschiminsky (Div. 3) and Michael Ochitwa (Div. 5).Other members of council include Mark Thibault (Div. 2), Douglas Ingram (Div. 4) and James Graf (Div. 6).The RM of LeRoy was in the same situation, with all incumbents elected by acclamation - Reeve Jerry McGrath, Christian Amendt (Div. 1), Vincent Staniec (Div. 3), Calvin Michel (Div. 5).Other members of council are Harlan Block (Div. 2), Calvin Buhs (Div. 4) and Allan Moorman (Div. 6).
