HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt Fire Department is making a public call to fill three volunteer firefighter positions. Applications are being accepted until Aug. 31.

HUMBOLDT — For the founder of Humboldt Pride, seeing the rainbow pride flag being raised at Humboldt City Hall shows that LGBTQ2S people don’t have to go to the big city to find support.

NIPAWIN — This year’s Fish for Freedom tournament was won by a duo of sisters. Fish for Freedom is a ladies fishing tournament that serves to raise money for the Twin Lakes Trailblazer Snowmobile Club.

HUMBOLDT — A cross-country motorcycle rally aims to make Post Traumatic Stress Disorder more visible, as well as build a community among those dealing with the condition. The Rolling Barrage made a stop at Discovery Ford in Humboldt on Aug.

UPDATE: Mary Pelly has been found safe and sound. MELFORT — A 16-year-old Melfort girl is missing and local police are asking for the public’s help to locate her. Mary Pelly was last seen leaving her residence in Melfort at approximately 9 a.m.

TISDALE, HUMBOLDT — The new Tisdale Trojans staff departed its fall camp excited for the season to start. The midget AAA hockey team drew about 65 players from across the province to the Aug. 17 and 18 event in Humboldt.

With the Riders having the week off, some notes on players and coaches from this year and last year’s Grey Cup. I spoke with Nick Arbuckle during Grey Cup week in Edmonton last November. He was an impressive young man.

In the early 1960s, it was discovered that heart disease seemed much less prevalent in the town of Roseto, Pa. than the neighbouring town, Bangor, Pa. Roseto was a town of 1,600 Italian-Americans.
