MELFORT — Jamie Placsko has stepped down as the Melfort Mustangs president after two years in the role and eight years on the team’s board. She has been on the board since 2011.

EAST CENTRAL — Over the next six years, the provincial government will be adding new passing lanes and twinning portions of Highway 5 between Saskatoon and the intersection of Highway 2.

TISDALE — Lynne Roszell felt helpless when her loved ones fought against cancer, so now she’s using her skills as a snowmobiler to raise funds for research into the disease.

HUMBOLDT — With construction underway on the street in front of their fire hall, the Humboldt and District Fire Department is planning a temporary move to the Humboldt Curling Club.

EAST CENTRAL — The province’s premier has announced a cabinet shuffle. Humboldt–Watrous MLA Donna Harpauer remains as finance minister, while Melfort MLA Todd Goudy has become the legislative secretary to the premier.

HUMBOLDT — Humboldt ranks as one of the lowest communities on Statistics Canada’s Crime Severity Index within Saskatchewan. Out of the 16 Saskatchewan municipalities on the list, Humboldt ranked 13th in 2018, with a score of 57.93.

KINISTINO — A 23-year-old man from James Smith First Nation has been charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm after a single vehicle rollover seven kilometers north of Kinistino.

EAST CENTRAL — Five east central communities will receive funding for community flood mapping. Tisdale, Melfort, Arborfield, Cudworth and Watson have been designated “high risk” for future flooding.

TISDALE — Daven Smith is excited to be back with the Tisdale Trojans. The Warman product suited up for the midget AAA hockey team from 2014 to 2016. In his final season he captained the squad.

HUMBOLDT — New conference. Same goal. That could be the Humboldt Mohawks’ motto for this coming nine-man football season. The 2018 3A runners-up have moved to conference four and are looking for another successful campaign.
