CROOKED RIVER — The Crooked River Lutheran Church has celebrated its 84th anniversary, and its last service. The church was organized by nine families in the summer of 1934, in the Crooked River Hall. The final service was held Aug.

ROSE VALLEY —The Rose Valley Town Hall was broken into and local police are asking for the public’s help to find the culprit. At around 3 a.m. on July 19, a Caucasian male broke into and entered the office.

NORTHEAST — You might have noticed some smoke this past week. The smoke is from forest fires in Alberta and B.C., and while you don’t need to worry about being burned, the smoke has its own risks.

Water Ridge Park will be the home of man’s best friend on Aug. 25, as Dog Day in the Park returns for another year. The annual event, which this year falls one day prior to National Dog Day, is an fundraiser hosted by the Humboldt SPCA.

In order for Saskatchewan municipalities to participate in the Gas Tax Fund Program, the Saskatchewan government is requiring municipalities to start implementing an asset management strategy.

TISDALE — According to Sgt. Daryl Andrusiak, the Tisdale RCMP’s commanding officer, cell phone fraud scams are on the rise. “It might just be that time of the season but it seems to have really taken off in the last little while,” Andrusiak said.

Statistics Canada recently released their report of police-reported crime in 2017 on July 23.

MELFORT — Melfort-based radio stations 105 CJVR and CK750 have been bought by the B.C.-based Jim Pattison Broadcast Group. The purchase is a part of a takeover of Fabmar Communications Ltd.

MELFORT — Pastor Paul Dubois spoke at the Melfort City Council meeting Aug. 13, asking to rezone the Melfort Journal building on 901 Main Street so it has the potential for him to use it as a worship space.

The Burton Lake trail will continue to be developed after city council approved the spending of $10,000 on the trails by the Community and Leisure Services Department.
