Blake Berglund and Melanie Hankewich (Belle Plaine) may have started their musical journeys separately but it did not take long before their musical paths became intertwined.

June 8 will be a historic day as dignitaries from both the Whitecap Dakota First Nation and the Governor General’s Horse Guards will come together at Original Humboldt for the first time in 130 years.

For most it is an honour we will never receive but for Kelly Bates that honour is about to become a reality.

Sitting at an elementary school play, I was shocked to hear someone behind me loudly mutter ‘finally’ as the students came on stage for their final bow.

It was an idea that resulted in two large donations to the Salvation Army from the Kinistin Saulteaux Nation.

It was a cause that everyone could get behind at the Canadian Tire Dunk Tank for Jumpstart fundraiser on May 27. Ten volunteers braved the cold to get dunked at $5 for 3 balls or $20 for a sure dunk with all funds raised going to local kids in need.
