MAYNARD: Margaret We are saddened to announce that on Saturday, May 7th, 2016 Margaret Mary Maynard (nee Novecosky) passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 70 years, with her loving family by her side.

North Star Pottery is celebrating their 40th anniversary this year and as part of their celebration they hosted their annual Show and Sale on May 7-8.

A piece to remember former Humboldt Public School caretaker, Niel Britz, now stands on the playground at the elementary school. The school held a dedication ceremony on May 7, to dedicate a gazebo on the playground in his honour.

Humboldt Collegiate Institute was well represented at the Skills Canada Saskatchewan competition on April. 21-22.

There is more to see outside of the Horizon School Division. And that was a big part of the Horizon school Division Student Day on May 3. Director of Education, Kevin Garinger, says the focus this year was on inspiring students to be leaders.

It was a great day for some football at the Kelly Bates Football Camp at St. Peter’s College on Apr. 30-May 1, 2016. For the past 11 years, retired CFL player and HCI alumni, Kelly Bates, has loved coming out to Muenster to put on the camp.

So at the time that I am writing this, I am sitting at my desk in the Journal office and I am emotionally exhausted.

With all of the devastation currently going on in Fort McMurray is it hard to feel good. While I feel horrible for all of the people who are being affected by the terrible fires I do still feel a sense of pride.

FLEISCHHACKER: Roman August 9, 1924 – May 3, 2016 The death of Mr. Roman Fleischhacker of Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. He was 91 years of age.

RAMLER: Lillian September 13, 1927 – May 1, 2016 The peaceful death of Lillian (nee Sarauer) Ramler of Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of Annaheim, SK), occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the age of 88 years.
