Skate Humboldt was busy over the weekend hosting a pair of skating events that ran from Feb. 5-7. Regional Invitational Competition The first event was the Regional Invitational Competition on Feb. 5 & 6 for the STARSkate skaters.

Kids in the community got to bowl with the Broncos on Feb. 3 & 4. The Humboldt Broncos participated in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Humboldt Bowl for Kids Sake, which was the kickoff for the Bowl for Kids Sake week, which runs from Feb. 8-14.

Another week, another couple of road losses for the Humboldt Broncos as they traveled to Northern Saskatchewan on Feb. 5 & 6 and returned home being outscored 13-3. The losses extended the Broncos’ road losing streak to 23 games.

Twenty-two years. As hockey fans in Canada we hear about that number every spring.

In school, it was always the ones you least suspect. The friends who were out partying all night. The friends who always appeared to be happy.

MERKOSKY: Peter Paul November 20, 1925 – January 29, 2016 The death of Mr. Peter Paul Merkosky of Jubilee Lodge, Kinistino, SK, (and formerly of LeRoy, SK), occurred at his residence on Friday, January 29, 2016. He was 90 years of age.

WOLSFELD: Celine July 7, 1923 – February 2, 2016 The death of Celine Wolsfeld of Saskatoon, SK, (and formerly of Muenster, SK), occurred at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, on Tuesday, February 2, 2016. She was 92 year of age.

The traffic light at the Main Street and HWY 5 intersection is down after a Super B collided with the traffic pole and knocked it over at around 5:15 pm on Jan. 26. The driver tried to take a right hand turn from Main St.

Along with the usual budget discussion, four main points were discussed at the city’s budget meeting on Jan. 28.
