Members of the Maidstone Museum regret to announce the passing of Darrell Stewart, age 68, in Campbell River, B.C.

In 1988, Stewart learned the CNR Station at Maidstone was to be demolished and thought it would make a suitable museum building. He called a meeting on Aug. 8, 1988 to be held in the arena kitchen, which was attended by 25 interested people.

The building was sold for $1, to make it legal, to the newly founded Maidstone Museum Association.

In September the first building of the museum was moved to its present site.

Stewart served as president for many museum meetings for the next two and half years until he moved to British Columbia in the summer of 1990

Due to his foresight, he deserves credit as the founder of the Maidstone Museum village as it is today.
