After a well-attended public consultation and performance event at the Opera House in Battleford, the Historic Opera House Restoration Project is moving to Stage II.

Stage I of the project, the open house at the opera house, took place Dec. 4 and saw 120 attendees. Those in attendance were treated to visual and performing arts presentations by Common Ground Collective members and filled out surveys on the future of the opera house. The surveys questioned members of the local arts community on their interests in the facility when it is renovated and how they intend to use it.

Those returned surveys have been compiled and summarized, and have indicated "unprecedented support for these undertakings and offer a fascinating insight into the public's interest in these initiatives," according to a report.

Stage II consultations will take the form of three meetings next week, which will be facilitated by local entrepreneur Marie Kiargaard. Anyone can attend, as long as they indicate their attendance prior to the meetings themselves.

Jan. 23 will see the first meeting at the Alex Dillabough Centre for visual arts, the performing arts meeting takes place Jan. 24 at the Alex Dillabough Centre, and the third meeting, for the general public, takes place on Jan. 25 at Battleford Town Hall. All meetings will be held from 5:15 to 8 p.m. and pizza will be provided.
