Reflecting the prairies in watercolour

Winter Walk

Born in Outlook, I grew up on the prairies. After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with an education degree, a teaching career ensued. In 1971 a move to the Battlefords was followed by teaching junior high until retirement.

Classes in design and art instruction from Father Jourdain and a few workshops sparked a lifelong interest in painting and the arts. Joining the Battlefords Art Club was a major motivational factor as well as giving me the encouragement that I needed.

Prairie landscapes are favourite subjects, mostly in watercolours.

Presently I live in North Battleford with my husband, Allan. We enjoy travelling, in the summer with our motor home and in the winter to warmer climes.

Art Notes

By Lorraine Voegeli

A few Battlefords Art Club members met at the picturesque country home of Kathy Smith Tuesday. It was a beautiful summer day to sit around the yard that had far too many choice areas to paint.

A gazebo provided a shady retreat to have our lunch.

The sculpture symposium is presently being held at the Don Ross Centre, so next week we are invited to Mary Mattilla's country home. Our next session at the Don Ross Centre will be Tuesday, Aug. 26.

Be sure to check out the Ambulatory at the Chapel Gallery where some of our members have work on display.

Currently we are planning another artwork tour to some of the Saskatoon galleries in September. The last one in June was a success. Contact any member or our president for further information..

Enjoy another summery week.
