The author of a book on Canadian and aboriginal history will be in the Battlefords area next week. Dr.

Juno Award winner Mitch Dorge, former drummer of Grammy-nominated Crash Test Dummies, is bringing his In Your Face and Interactive presentation to John Paul II Collegiate in North Battleford Wednesday, April 30 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

A staple of family road trips growing up was my dad playing the Garth Brooks greatest hits CD. One of my favourite songs on the album was Rodeo. Growing up in southern Ontario, there weren't many rodeos to attend in the area.

April 21 was the 118th running of the Boston Marathon. It was Battleford's Brian Graw's third time competing in the historic race. Graw, a 50-year-old employee at Home Hardware, has been running since 2007 at the request of his wife, Marie.

The Easter break is over. The community poster board are filling up with coming events, squeezing as many activities as possible in before the "school's out" summer lull.

Returning to Canada, my life is far from being near enough to imagine the strife one encounters when living near escapees across the Mexican border.

Even though dancers were competing out of town as was the high school badminton team, the community was kept hopping with numerous other events being held in Unity April 12.

The last snowfall, April 17, is well on the way to being melted, leaving puddles in places. The juncos have enjoyed themselves bathing. Up until just recently chickadees have been mainly what are coming to the bird feeders.

The Maymont Dance Club had their annual recital April 13. An enthusiastic audience turned out to watch the dancers perform hip hop, jazz and lyrical numbers.

Battlefords Art Club members all worked on a project on a fine spring day Tuesday, including watercolour pieces, sketches and acrylic paint. We invite everyone to our sale at the Chapel Gallery Friday, May 2 from 6 to 9 p.m.
