In the Community

It looks like spring has arrived, at least for a while. The students have been enjoying the weather and really like being able to play outside again. It has been a busy week at the school.

Arena renovations will continue this spring with the foundation and drainage as the main focus. Thank you to Pipemaster Oilfield Services for a substantial donation that has helped move this project forward.

Isn't today the first day of spring on the calendar? Does it feel like it? The rash of sunshine and warm weather March 8 - 14 was fantastic.

Finally I think it is safe to say spring has found us! For the last week we have had melting snow but no word of crows or gophers yet. I will be waiting for Henry Konopelski to make the report of the first sightings.

"Oil Can Gertie," our very own Gertie Sherman, has an article in More of Our Canada, published by Reader's Digest. Congratulations, Gertie. Gertie has a unique collection of oil squirt cans in her garage.

Now the snow is melting every day so we should soon have drier streets and walks. The town man does a remarkable job of moving the snow around and keeping the streets as good as possible.

A number of the apartment ladies enjoyed coffee and bingo at the Pine Island Suites the morning of March 12. Norma Lott is pleased to have a new great-grandson. He was born March 3 to Aaron and Naz Grimily and is a brother for J.J.

Parents et petits so much more than play! The Battlefords Francophone community will be offering a bilingual French/English playgroup for parents and their children 0 to 6 years of age April 5 to June 21.

There are many interesting and compelling moments that occur in the City of North Battleford Historic Archives. These moments happen with the donation of many textual records and historical pictures that come into our repository.

Technology is always changing and this is very evident in the school. The days of copying work on a Gestetner are gone. The school is now full of computers, SMART Boards, iPads, photocopiers and the wireless.
